The Bowen Island Municipality is in the process of regulating Vacation Rentals on Bowen Island... Restrictive regulations are being considered which may impact your next stay on Bowen Island. Restricting Whole Houses as Vacation Rentals. BIA only rents whole houses. Would you be willing to rent a room in someone's home? Restricting Vacation Rentals to 120 days per year . BIA currently offers STVRs year-round to support Bowen businesses during the high season and offseason. On average we rent over 260 nights per year allowing you to get away all year long. Restricting Vacation Rentals to primary residences only . BIA rents ALL and ONLY vacation homes, none are primary residences. This regulation would end our STVR service to you, our guests. Our original post below was written in 2015 This started in September 2015 when VRBO implemented a "best match" policy. All foreign currencies were converted to USD. Considering the large US and Canadian exchange rate difference the issue has escalated. Our Canadian guests are inquiring via VRBO or HomeAway and they are seeing really low prices.........For example: the Lazy Bowen Hideaway summer rate for 2 guests rents for $205 CAD per night.........but the VRBO listing says $144 per night. A big draw for visitors and residents of Bowen Island is the abundant nature. Everywhere you look is covered in beautiful greenery. Our guests love to escape the concrete and noise of the city for the tranquility of the forest.
